Do I need a visa if I have a study permit Canada?

  • 0

I’d love to study in Canada one day however, during my research, I keep seeing study permits and student visas. So I want to ask, do I need a visa if I have a study permit?

  1. You need both. Having a study permit alone isn’t enough to enter Canada; you also need a visa. The study permit gives you the right to study in Canada but you can’t use it for entry. Your visa is for entrance.

  2. Yes, you need both a study permit and a visa to study in Canada. While a study permit allows you to engage in academic activities at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada, it is not a visa and does not allow you to enter Canada. To enter Canada for academic purposes, you need a student visa.

If you enter Canada with your visa and don’t get your study permit, you cannot engage in academic activities, therefore, make sure to have both documents before you travel to Canada.

  3. When I first got my confirmation of enrollment from my University in Canada, I learned that I also needed a study permit and a visa. The study permit allows you to stay and study in Canada, but the visa is necessary for entry.

I applied for both simultaneously, and the visa was issued along with my letter of introduction which is an approval for a study permit.

    It works like this:

Study permit: Needed to engage in academic activities while in Canada.

Student visa: Needed to enter Canada fr your academics.

Both play different roles and are needed.
