For me, I had a student visa, and it allowed me to enter the country more than 90 days before academic activities resumed.
Another type of visa will have a different rule!

Yes, there is a time limit to enter the UK after getting your visa. However, this time limit depends on the type of visa you have and why you’re coming to the UK.
Generally, you should enter the UK within 30 days of the start date on your visa vignette (sticker in your passport).
In most cases, you have from the beginning of your visa validity until its expiration date to enter and leave the country.
If you received a visitor visa, you can enter the UK anytime within the validity period of your visa.
But for a work visa, your resumption date determines when you’ll enter the UK – (more on that below).
If you hold a student visa, you’re expected to enter the UK before the start of your program – you can enter up to 3 months before your course starts.

Before I received my UK student visa, I already knew that the entry time was tied to the start date of my course.
While there is no general time limit to enter the UK after getting a visa, there are visas that come with conditions like a specified date for you to enter the country.
If you get these types of visas, you have to enter the UK on the date specified on your visa.
However, where there is no such condition, your visa validity and purpose of entering the UK will decide when you’ll enter the country.

Every visa issued by the UK government comes with a specific validity period, if you check yours, you will find it.
For a student like I had, it will be valid from the date issued till the end of your program.
This period indicates the duration during which your visa can be used for entry into the UK (note the word ‘entry”).
For instance, if you have a tourist visa that is valid for six months – you can enter and leave the UK as many times as possible within this timeframe – when the visa is valid.
As long as you enter the UK within the validity period, you’re in compliance with the immigration regulations.
However, after this timeframe (its validity period), your visa will expire and can’t be used to enter the UK again unless you get another visitor visa.
In the same fate, if your visa is subject to a specific program in the UK like a conference, you’re expected to enter the country before the start of your program (in this case, conference).
Entry conditions for each UK visa type
There are different visas you can get to enter the UK like work visas, student visas, family reunion visas, and more.
The time limit for each of these visas varies – it depends on the visa category and the specific conditions attached to it.
Is there a time limit to enter the UK after getting a tourist visa?
Upon getting a standard UK visitor for tourism which is usually valid for 6 months or less, you can enter the country any time within the period that the visa is still valid.
If you get the visa for 3 months of tourist activities, you’ll enter within the specified 3 months.
From the day it is issued, you have till the end of the 3 months to enter the UK.

And, you can enter multiple times – that is, enter and leave and re-enter as long as the visitor visa is valid.
Is there a time limit to enter UK after getting dependent visa ?
After getting your dependant visa, the exact time for you to enter the country depends on the specific visa conditions and the primary visa holder’s status.
Ideally, your dependent visa will have a start date, and you are expected to enter the UK within a reasonable period after this date.

In a dependant visa, your entrance condition is often tied to the main applicant’s visa.
Is there a time limit to enter the UK after getting a fiance visa?
The UK fiancé visa is valid for six months and you must enter the country and marry within this 6-month validity period of the visa. After your marriage, you can apply for further visa options depending on the situation.
Is there a time limit to enter UK after getting work visa?
Your work visa will have a start date which will be tied to your resumption date at work, and you’re expected to enter the UK within a reasonable period after this visa-stated date to begin your job on time.
While there isn’t a strict, universal deadline, align your entry with your work start date and the validity period of your visa.

Delaying your entry till after your work resumption date will raise questions, so it’s best to plan your arrival accordingly.
Is there a time limit to enter the UK after getting a standard visitor visa?
The time limit for you to enter the UK with a visitor visa is from the date the visa is issued till its expiration date.
Within this time, you can enter the country at any moment as long as your visa is still valid.
In the UK, a visitor visa is designed primarily for tourism, business meetings, or visiting family and friends.
A visitor visa is usually issued for 6 months. After getting your visitor visa which is valid for 6 months (180 days), the UK government specifies that you must enter the country within these 180 days.
The 180 days is the validity period of your visa, failing to enter the country within this period (the validity period of your visa) will result in the expiration of your visa.
Once your visa expires, you’ll reapply and get approval before you’re allowed into the country again.
If your visitor visa is granted and valid from the 10th of March to the 10th of September, you can enter the UK any moment from the 10th of March and leave the UK on or before the 10th of September.
The day your visa validity elapses.
In a nutshell, you can enter the UK at any moment from the day your visitor visa is issued until the day it expires.
If your UK visitor visa was issued for 3 months, you have from the day it was issued till the end of its 3 months validity to enter the UK.
Note: If your visitor visa is subject to a program in the UK and the program has a specified date, you must enter the UK before or on the program’s start date.
In this situation, the reason why you are entering the UK is to attend a program and it’s specified in your visa terms therefore, you must be in the UK before the program starts.

In addition, unless specified otherwise, you can enter and leave the UK multiple times while your visitor visa is still valid but you can’t stay more than six months on each visit since the visa is only valid for months.

If you get a UK visa, check the visa conditions, if there is a specified date for you to travel, ensure you follow the instructions.
However, where such conditions do not exist, you can enter the country based on your visa validity and the purpose of your visit.
