How to check Australian visa application status

After submitting my Australian visa, I love to monitor its status.

Not only does it help me stay updated about the processing of my visa, but it also gives me peace of mind, knowing I’m informed at every step of the way.

Whether you’re applying for a student visa, a work visa, or a tourist visa, you can do this as well.

You can log in and check the status of your application whenever you like, and I’ll show you how to do it below.

With this, you’ll get real-time updates about your visa.

How to check Australian visa application status

You can easily check the status of your Australian visa through the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system or the myVEVO app.

Alternatively, if you applied for your visa through an immigration agent, they can also help you monitor the progress and verify your visa status on your behalf.

The third time I applied for an Australian visa, an agent handled my application and kept me updated throughout the process.

Method 1: How to check Australian visa application status online using the VEVO system

The first time I ever checked my Australian visa status, I used the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system, and let me tell you, it was a smooth experience.

Here’s how you can check yours using it:

Step 1: Head to the VEVO system

The Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system is designed to help you check your visa application status.

It’s all done online, and trust me, it works like a charm.

I’ve logged in at odd hours, and it’s always available, whether it’s early in the morning or late at night.

You can access it here: [Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO)].

Step 2: Log in with your access number

To use the VEVO, you’ll need one of these:

    • Visa grant number
    • Transaction reference number (TRN)
    • Visa evidence number

These numbers can be found in your visa-related documents, like your passport or ImmiCard.

If you applied for your visa online, you’ll have a TRN.

If you’re like me and sometimes forget where you’ve saved it, check your emails or ImmiAccount.

I remember misplacing mine once, but I found it when I checked my ImmiAccount.

You’ll see your visa grant number in your visa grant letter, and if your passport has a visa label, you’ll see the visa evidence number there.

Step 3: Select the ‘Check visa details’ option

Once you’re on the VEVO page, click on the “check visa details with VEVO” option.

This will bring up the visa holder enquiry screen, where you can access all the details about your visa.

Step 4: Select your document type

Next, select the type of travel document you used during your application.

VEVO supports several options, like:

    • Passport
    • ImmiCard
    • Convention Travel Document (Titre de Voyage)
    • Document for Travel to Australia (DFTTA)
    • PLO56 Evidence Card

I prefer to use my passport, as that’s the most common document type.

However, you can choose whichever document.

If you’re unsure which one to pick, just check the documents you used when applying.

Step 5: Enter your reference number

In the reference type field, enter your TRN, visa grant number, visa evidence number, or VEVO password.

I prefer to use my visa evidence number, but any of them will work.

Step 6: Fill in your date of birth

Next, you’ll need to enter your date of birth. Make sure it’s correct.

Step 7: Put your document number

This is where you need to be extra careful.

I once accidentally entered a zero instead of an “O,” and trust me, that simple mistake can cause headaches.

Step 8: Select your document country

If you’re using a Titre de Voyage, enter the ‘country’ as the ‘nationality’ shown on the document.

If you’re using an ImmiCard, you don’t need this step.

Step 9: Submit your request

Finally, check everything, accept the terms and conditions, and submit your request.

Within seconds, you’ll see your visa details.

And that’s it! VEVO makes checking your Australian visa status a breeze.

There’s also a VEVO App you can use if you prefer checking with your phone.

Method 2: How to check Australian visa application status using the myVEVO App

Even though I’ve used the VEVO online system, I prefer the myVEVO App and if you’re like me, the myVEVO App is a fantastic alternative.

If you’re like me and prefer the convenience of checking things on your phone, the myVEVO App is a fantastic alternative.

To check your application status with the app, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Download and install the myVEVO app

First, download the myVEVO App from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

It’s free and easy to install.

I’ve had the app on my phone for a while now, and it’s been a reliable tool whenever I need to check my visa details.

Step 2: Create a personal identification number (PIN)

Once the app is installed, create a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

You need the PIN to access your application details.

I’ll advise you to make your PIN easy to remember but also secure.

If you’re prone to forgetting like me, you can use the Touch ID or Face ID, the app has that feature.

A quick tip: I once entered the wrong PIN three times, and the app asked me to set a new one. So, be mindful when typing it in.

Step 3: Choose a document type

Next, select your document type from the menu.

You can choose:

  • Passport
  • ImmiCard
  • Document for Travel to Australia (DFTTA)
  • Titre de Voyage

I always use my passport since it’s the most common option, but go with whatever document you used during your visa application.

Step 4: Enter other information

Next, enter your visa grant number or transaction reference number and your date of birth.

Step 5: Put your document details

Here’s where you’ll enter your document details, whether it’s your passport, ImmiCard, DFTTA, or Titre de Voyage number.

If you’re using a Titre de Voyage, select the correct country – it should match what’s on your document.

For those with an ImmiCard, you don’t need this step.

One more thing: just like with the VEVO system, be careful not to make any mistakes here.

Step 6: Submit

Finally, accept the terms and conditions and submit your request. Within a few moments, your application details will appear on the screen.

It’s that easy!

The App has been a handy tool for me, and I hope it makes your experience just as seamless.

Method 3: How to check your Australian visa application status through your immigration agent

If you hired an immigration agent to help with your visa application, you’re in good hands – your agent can check your application status on your behalf.

When I first went through the visa process with an agent, having an expert guide me was a huge relief.

They can check the status of your application and communicate with the Department of Home Affairs on your behalf, which I find amazing.
